Guangzhou Dublin College Cultural Experience - St. Patrick's Day Theme Activities

On the morning of March 17, 2025, Dublin College Guangzhou held an Irish cultural experience activity - St. Patrick's Day theme activities in Room 202 of the Sixth Teaching Building. The event, co-chaired by Irish teachers Dr. Daniel Murphy and Dr. Anthony Twamley, attracted a large number of teachers and students. The event introduced the historical background of St. Patrick's Day in depth, and through the form of music and ballads, students experienced the unique charm of Irish culture. Dr. Zixia Huang and Dr. Aleksandra Ristic, faculty members of University College Dublin, Ireland, also attended the event.

At the beginning of the event, Daniel Murphy explained the historical background and cultural significance of St. Patrick's Day to the students in detail. Through his vivid narration, Dr. Daniel led the students through time and space to understand the origin, development and important position of this festival in Irish society. Later, Dr. Anthony gave a wonderful performance of Irish guitar playing and singing. He played the classic Irish ballad "Sweet Sixteen", which received applause from the teachers and students. Then, Dr. Anthony led the students to learn to sing the song. Under his guidance, the students gradually mastered the rhythm and emotional expression of the song.

   The students said that through this activity, they not only had a deeper understanding of Irish culture, but also increased their interest in learning English and exploring world cultures. Daniel Murphy expressed the hope that through such activities, the exchange and integration of Chinese and foreign cultures can be further promoted, and students' learning enthusiasm and innovative spirit can be inspired.

  This activity provided opportunities for cultural exchange and experience for the college students, enriched the students' knowledge reserve, and built a platform for all-round understanding of Irish culture and customs, stimulating everyone's strong interest in Irish culture. Through close cooperation with University College Dublin, the College continues to introduce high-quality educational resources and advanced teaching concepts, creating an open, inclusive and international learning environment. in the future, the College will continue to organize a variety of multicultural exchange activities, such as the Dublin summer programs (International Study Abroad), one-year exchange program (Study in Dublin), etc. To help students broaden their horizons, enhance their cross-cultural understanding and global competency on the international platform of Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools, provide students with more diversified cultural experiences and international learning opportunities, and help them grow into outstanding talents with global vision and international competitiveness.
