What is the story behind the alumna at SCAU?

2012-2014   Computer Science and Technology program at College of Mathematics

         and Informatics of SCAU

2014-2016   Cardiff University

Bachelor in Computer Science (First class degree)

2016-2017   University College London

Master in Computer Graphics Vision and Images

Now Newland Digital Technology in Fuzhou

       Algorithm engineer

Her name is Wang Xinying and she comes from Quanzhou, Fujian. She was a student of 2012 Computer Science and Technology program at SCAU. She has now graduated from University College London (UCL, ranked 10th in the 2020QS World University Rankings) and returned to Fujian to work.

Academic life at SCAU: Having a firm aim and practicing sincerely, spurring with long accumulation

During her two years at SCAU, as the first batch of student of Computer Science and Technology program, Wang Xinying's courses were entirely in VIP mode. There were the best teachers and foreign teachers from School of Foreign Studies who taught them English, and dean and professors of College of Computer Science who taught bilingual professional courses (one dean, one vice dean, one professor, small class teaching+high interaction+never possible to skip classes).

In the past two years, Wang Xinying has expressed that she was very fulfilling, hardworking, and under a lot of pressure every day. However, she also said, "Joining the 2+2 program is the most correct decision in life, and it will be one of the most enjoyable and satisfying experiences in my life."

Studying abroad in the UK: Climbing mountains and looking far away is the only way to know that there is a sky beyond.

Cardiff, the small town, is not as bustling as Guangzhou at night when the lights are on. It is a warm and cozy small town that can be easily walked around. The customs in the simple small town and British gentlemanly demeanor of this city have also brought Wang Xinying a warm and unforgettable experience of studying abroad. The encouragement and companionship of classmates from SCAU also gave her a familial bond in a foreign land.

My two years at Cardiff University were all professional courses. The courses at Cardiff University are very different from those in China, and sometimes you may only get a minor score after working hard to complete an assignment. The assigned homework and projects are relatively new, and it is never possible to find the same project code and answer from the Internet. "For all the courses we did not have a fixed textbook, and the college never distribute textbooks. Professors' lectures are a condensed collection of multiple books, and there is a recommended book list on the homepage of the courseware. Therefore, compared to teaching with textbooks in China, most students in foreign countries bring their own computers to class, and the campus is covered with WiFi, making learning very convenient." Wang Xinying has a deep impression.

After two years of study at Cardiff University, Wang Xinying came to University College London to pursue a Master's degree in Computer Graphics Vision and Images.

Wang Xinying, who has been deeply involved in the field of computer science for many years, has now ushered in a shining moment for her. When it comes to her own success, Wang Xinying said, "I just have always hoped that I am also a shining person in the eyes of others."

Eight years of struggle and sweat have nurtured a flower called ‘programmer’, and Wang Xinying has become the shining youth from SCAU in our eyes.
